125g Stocking/Compatibility:Raptor29 (Arowana & Stingray?)

    Arowana and stingray in 125 gallon?

    I'm soon going to buy a 125 gallon tank and am thinking about putting an arowana and a stingray in it. I was wondering if it would be big enough.

    Too small for the arowana long term. For short term such as a grow out, it will be ok. The only catch to this is that many people always go into it saying they will start off with one size tank with plans to upgrade later and never do.

    Depending on the type of ray, it would be minimum. The key to rays is the footprint. Should be at least 6'x2'x2'. The 2' width should be non negotiable for these guys. This would be for the reticulated. Larger species like the motoro will require larger footprints as disc size and overall length to tail will increase. Then you get into the 3' width area.

    BTW Raptor, that is a 180 gallon tank with that footprint

    With rays the tank needs to be at least 3 feet wide, and an arrowana is basically the same aka a 125, and a 180 are both too small.

    haha i say i upgrade but i end up selling the fish before it gets to that size

    Make sure you have a big enough tank before you buy the large fish. I learned that the hard way with my Redtail. He was 2 inches long when I bought him and grew to over a foot in less than a year... I've seen an arowana in a 225 and that seemed to just hold it.

    lol...not a half bad idea. Actually...if you have space, a real easy build for an indoor pond is using landscaping timbers and a pond liner. You can easily get an 8'x4'x2' structure built. Rays would love some space like this.

    125 gallon is much too small!! What kind of ray do you have or do you want to buy? We have arowanas which are more than 1 meter long and nearly 30 cm high!
