    30 Gallon Long Stocking

So I finally got the tank cleaned out and all that back breaking stuff. Anyway, time to move on.

I'm going to be planting this tank and wanted to hear some ideas as far as stocking goes. I'll definitely be getting some Otto Cats to put in there because they're so awesome. :D Keep in mind, this is a 30 gallon long (36" long).

I also wanted to add that I don't want to do cichlids. I'm thinking just a peaceful community tank.

Cardinal Tetras, some Corys, Ottos (of course) and a few Gouramis (maybe a few Rams instead of the Gouramis)

I will be doing some pygmy corys. I'm actually not crazy about Gouramis. Cardinal Tetras are an option though.

After looking at some different species I'm thinking Zebra Danios, Golden White Clouds and Celestial Pearl Danios may look nice along with some other fish.

Danios are schooling fish, correct ?

Edit: I don't want to attempt rams again, especially with the water here.

True... I have ideal ram water.... not everyone does...

    I know nothing about Danios

Pseudomugil Gertrudae would be great if I can find them.

Are you looking for a multi species community, a theme tank, or a specimen tank?

Not a specimen tank since normally that bores me. A theme tank or a multi species community would be fine though.

danios are a schooling fish. I'd keep around 6 or so, so that way they are more comfortable. If I remember correctly, as long as you're not mixing large danios with the celestials (they only get up to around an inch), they should all school together. I actually have my Celestials and Endlers in the same tank, and they all school together (and was recommended by a site I had looked them up on before I bought them).

Oh yea, and mixing celestials with gouramis would be a bad idea anyways (as I found out the hard way) so it's good to stay away from them anyway lol

I'm undecided on the Celestials but think the Golden White Clouds and Zebras would look nice together.

Cant go wrong with Neons... I have 8 in my community tank. They swim around in a school all day and are really cool to watch... Serpae Tetras are cool too!

Follow that and it will give you great ideas for different communities and stocking/compatib. ideas. <what I would get as far as coloration>
    You could do something like:
    A)3-4 Corydoras' <Albino>
B)a school of Otocinclus/ Siamese Algae Eaters
C)a handful of Malaysian Trumpet Snails
    D)2 mystery snails <Gold>
E)a handful of dwarf shrimp <Yellow>
F)small school of Red Minor Serpae Tetras, Black Skirt tetras, or White Skirt Tetras,
G)possibly a few male fancy guppies to create movement across the top
 These are just a few ideas taking color variations into mind guessing you might want to display some different colors amongst all the plants.

Haha! I like watching the trumpets mulling around in the eco-complete. And I normally don't do any bigger than them but the boys talked me into the golden mystery snails...I like their ?shell color and the nephew thinks their cool when their slivering up the front glass where he can watch them. Lol!
The golden clouds would be nice. They should give the top layer a splash of color :)

    Re: 30 Gallon Long Stocking

So what are your plans beyond them and the plants?
Ie. Background, substrate, co2 or liquid chemicals?
I know my toughest decision with the 90 was what to stock it with..so I went with a bit of this and a bit of that and I'm pretty happy since I have color variation and descent movement at each level top, middle, bottom.
I realy want to get out and get a few more of the bamboo shrimp (wood shrimp)..Amazingly I think he/she is the neatest out of the entire tank.

    Re: 30 Gallon Long Stocking

Probably just a white background, and crushed coral substrate. I'll most likely be dosing with Flourish Excel and something else.

    Re: 30 Gallon Long Stocking

I'd shy from white. It will make the algae stand out like a sore thumb also. Just a warning, you might have better luck than me of course. I do the Flourish Excel, Flourish, and Iron all on a as needed basis

Well my plan is to not be able to see much of the background once the plants are in the tank.
