33g Stocking/Compatibility:Cherryblossom-98(Questions & Advice)

    Am I overstocked? [help]


    Hi I recently set up a new 125l (33 us gallon tank),
    I cycled the tank for 4 weeks before adding any fish and added some prime to the water to get rid of chlorine.
    i have 2 medium sized plants, a bridge ornament, a large half shell that doubles up as a cave and some driftwood.
    i was wondering if i could get an opinion on wether my tank is overstocked.
    I have:
    1 blue dwarf Gourami
    1 male betta
    5 black skirt tetras
    11 neons
    2 rummy noses that shoal with the neons
    1 small angelfish
    a bala shark
    2 pakistani loaches (these are the only ones that seem to be fighting with eachother)
    1 female betta
    1 penguin tetra
    and
    2 male and 4 female guppies
    the only fish there that i know will get quite large is the bala shark and i plan on giving him to my best friend with a much larger tank when he gets to big! [3ofus]
    all of my fish seem to be gettin along fine ( no ripped fins or injurys)
    the reason i ask all of this is because my dad has his heart set on getting a small gold severum that can grow up in the tank as he has heard that they are the least agressive chichlids and that if they grow up with the tetras from a young age they wont see them as food? :confused:

    To answer the question, YES you are overstocked.

    Next, don't place a Gold Severum in the tank with those guys. You'll end up with a 33 gallon tank with a Gold Severum and nothing else.

    Hanna, have your Dad check out the Gold Rams. He may like them too. However, you're going to need to thin the herd before you add anything else to your tank.
    You're right, the Bala Sharks have got to go ... and your Angel will not stay small for long, and will enjoy the taste of your neons one day. :)

    Thats what I wanted to say alley. Also the guppies will breed like crazy. But I think by the overstocking the fry wont last long :)

    My best reply would be to thin out the fish you've got. Obviously, you're having an issue with the loaches, so there can be some thinning there. As for any other fish removal, it's a difficult decision which should ultimately be dictated by the fishes' behavior and by water quality. If you test, and you start seeing levels rise past the point where you're willing to do water changes, you should begin to remove fish. As for your dad's favorite fish, well, tell him to set up a tank for them. Look on craigslist (my fave) for cheap tank setups, and get it cycled, and let him go at it with his severums! It's always more fun to do what you actually WANT to do than what is easiest at the time, even if it takes more money, time, etc. I know I'm not a great source, as we have WAY too many gallons of water in our home, but it's the truth. My husband and I both enjoy fishkeeping because we've tried all along to do it right.

    yeah...i was trying to refrain from commenting...but it finally got me.

    your stocking is ... well...a wee on the crazy side! :eek:

    betta, angle, gourami and black skirts.....

    then we throw in a bala for good measure.

    add to it the lunchmeat (a.k.a neons)

    what a combo!

    oh yeah...and i almost forgot...you want to add a sev to the mix as well?
