A pic I took tonight of my 55G flowerhorn tank...I'm putting some small pieces of wood from the yard in, which are the 2 sticks I have in so far...I have about 3 more that are being sterilized, but will be in soon.

Yeah...it does not look too crowded in person...hard to tell from the picture. As my FH gets larger, everything will come out except for the large piece of driftwood.

As for sticks from your yard...use at your own risk. I've done it for years with no issues. I usually find a good piece in the fall...put it in a shed, and let it dry out for a year or so...soak it in water with a touch of bleach for a few days, then soak it in water treated with prime for a few more days. Then toss it in the tank.

You bleach your sticks! *Wicked shocked face*...that's not good-I've read where sticks/wood absorb bleach and leach it. I use prime too and know it removes chlorine, but I'd be iffy.

    I'm amazed you don't boil/bake the sticks.

Yeah....I bleach them...I use very little. I let them soak in the prime for a long time, and I use a pretty heavy dose. Luckily I've had no issues.

My wife wouldn't let me get near the oven with some sticks from the yard...lol. After the lava rock boiling incident of 2007 where I had the entire house filled with w foul smell from the lava rocks, all sanitation must be done outdoors. I'm scared to put the wood on the grill..lol

You can use bleach! Sometimes the wood is too big for the oven or a pot.... It works as long as you de-chlorinate well! Note my Driftwood Treatment sticky Dawn
