55g Planted with Altum Angelfish (Considering)

    Ok, I was on my Angelfish breeding thread with Anthony and I brought up Altum Angels.... I am REALLY considering (other than the fact I am almost broke) adding substrate to my 55 gallon tank and planting it up and stocking it with Altum Angels for the main fish.

    Here was my thoughts on the tank...
    55 Gallon Tank
    Temp - 84
    PH - 5.6-6 - Peat Moss in Filters

    Livestock:
    5-7 Altum Angels (depending on what my LFS quotes them for)
    10-20 Black Neon Tetras
    4-6 Corys

    Plants:
    For plants I was going to split my 125 and send some up to my 55 to increase the space I have. I may also pick up some more Java Fern (the 55 will have weaker lighting and be a low light tank)

    They are cool looking, never seen them before... if I have I looked past them..

    Kind of thinking a nice plain looking livestock (got the Discus tank to be its opposite)

    I talked it over with the wife, she said we will see what we can do :D

    She like Angels... I really dont but I do like these (they are RARE and SENSITIVE! And best of all PRETTY)

    She also liked the X-Ray Pristella Tetra better than the Black Neon so GREAT suggestion Anthony!

    She said she IS sick of the bare-bottom tank upstairs and it is usually empty so.... hey! I have a plan!

    Maybe this weekend I will pick up a bag of sand, the tetras and the corys if we have the money.

    She said they were plain looking but that is what I want to go for.... like I said a less colorful tank is what I wanted.... would be strange to have a shoal of Cardinals surrounding a shoal of silver "show" fish! :)

    I have 6 of them. My lfs sold them 3 for $4.80. They are really cool and school VERY tightly.

    i dont think altums would work in a 55 your gonna upgrade watch their finage grows huge unless its like a 55 talll

    Me either :confused: I guess she figures if you cant beat him, join him!

    Like I mentioned she REALLY likes Angels. I expected an argument over doing this to the 55 gallon and she was like "hmmm, that sounds good! I am sick of that tank doing very little and not having any decorations in it! We will see what we can do."

    Yay!!!!!!

    Now I have to go driftwood hunting some more :)

    Here is my plan and why....

    This weekend get a bag or 2 of sand. Maybe even the tetras and a few corys (maybe not, depending on how much I need to spend)

    The Altums are going to be a special order which I wont know if they can get them or the price until Monday. Because of setting up the tank I WONT have the money on Monday to buy them so it will be a few weeks before beginning to order them!

    Most likely I wont be able to buy the entire school of Angels either in 1 pop so I will get them little by little depending on what they are priced at (most likely $15-25 a piece depending on size) and that price may be higher..... they may not even be able to get any.... I will get them to check for me on Monday though...

    Hopefully then in a few weeks I will get them. I also am going to pull some of my plants from my 125 to start the planting of that tank..... I will look for more driftwood but I dont even know where to begin anymore finding it... I WILL find a way though :)

    The background of the tank is one from the store that has plants and stuff on it.... I am going to get rid of that and paint it black.... I vision the tank now that the wife said yes it is just a matter of order now of how I work on it!

    I may get them cheaper.... I dont really know yet.... kind of guessing from the prices I have seen online!

    They are pretty rare here though! I have only seen 2 in person 1 time before.... Part of the reason I want them.... I LOVE the rare fish and to get them to breed would be GREAT... :)

    Even if they dont, like the Discus they are VERY pretty to look at!

    Yep. Once i get my job i need to raise about 700 euros wich will be some easier since it's just after my bday then I can get a 150 gallon tank! The pet store has new tanks and I asked them will they be there then bla bla bla and they said yes. The're new at the standard tanks. It includes some driftwood 2 good filters and heaters and a light with cover :) I want to keep discus in there but I aint ready for it not even when I have the money :)

    You probably will loose a few til you get the hang of it.... but you may not either.... I did not have a forum to teach me how to do it... it was all trial and error with some reading online that I found for the most part to be inaccurate :confused:
