OMG! I never would have thought!

The whole purpose of me starting on this site was to identify if I had a pair of blue acaras or not. One day I had discovered eggs - that was exciting in itself. I took pics and asked questions - of course I am not a professional photographer of tanks and my pics probably made it difficult to identify. I was told by a number of people (not just here) that it looked like I had 2 females and that the eggs wouldn't amount to much. That explained them turning white and the parents eating them. No big deal - didn't think much of it again.

Today, after having trouble with a new media and then changing all of the water and puting the tried and true carbon back in the filter - I have fry. COOL!!!!!! I guess I do have a pair of acaras. My 2 acaras and my pleco were the only ones to survive the media switch disaster - less fish and less stress I guess also equal more of a chance to reproduce. I never expected that it would happen - never really tried to take my husbandry to that next level. I guess they had other ideas.

Well, we will see what this adventure delivers. I never saw these eggs as I never put the arrangement of my tank back to the way it was after I emptied all the bad water out and changed back to the carbon media in my filter. I have no real idea where the eggs were laid but hey - what can I say?

Lets see what happens - but what a wonderful surprise when I turned on the light and saw that little ball of babies swimming around.

    Cool!

    Re: I HAVE FRY!!!!!!!!

OOOPSSSS! Sorry about that - I miss understood. Them I don't have pics of and there is a bit of a story behind that. I knew that the parents would tend to them while eggs and young but with no other predators in the tank I didn't realize that once they started to venture on their own (and some of them were braver than others) that they would be no more. While mom did her best - I guess dad started picking off the strays. Honestly - I really wasn't prepared to have them - I don't have a separate tank to put them in or any of the other separation items on the market.

I have plans to go get the items needed for while they are still fry - I will be trying again. This was quite unexpected - after all - I did think that I had 2 females. I don't have the money or the space for another tank - when I decide to try this again I will figure out something then.

It was exciting wile it lasted and it gave me something new - it's a shame that it happened this way. I devote much of my time to 2 jobs and I also have 2 reptiles in my 1 bedroom apartment. I am working towards changing the situation but it's what I have right now. It will happen again and next time I will be ready.

    Re: I HAVE FRY!!!!!!!!

Hey, things happen. Maybe even they might get it right after a few more spawns. Not all parents get it right the first spawn and often make mistakes like eating fry, wigglers, not fanning the eggs, eating the eggs, etc.
