    ARCHERFISH

    General:
The members of this perchlike family are specialized inhabitants of brackish tropical waters.
Only a few species live permanently in freshwater habitats.

    Biology:
Archerfish hunt small fish and insects above and below the water surface.
They are well known for their ability to shoot down, with a well-aimed jet of water, insects located on a plant stalk above the water surface, for example.
They do not practice parental care; young Archerfish must fend for themselves if they are to survive into adulthood.
Many young Archerfish do not reach maturity as a result.
