I set up my 30 gallon with a few barbs. Not my ideal mixture but I wanted barbs from one particular tiny local store so I settled on what they had available because they may not have more until well into next year. I got one spanner barb and four questionables. They are supposed to be red panda barbs but I think they may be mixes, I'm no barb expert. Yes the tank still needs a total makeover. Its currently got limestone substrate, a plastic plant, softwood driftwood from my livebearer tank and a store-bought wooden piece. Don't worry about the limestone, my tap water is liquified rock already and I've been using limestone for years. Cycled by taking the filter from my livebearer tank and giving the livebearers a new filter because they have plenty enough in their established tank to recover quickly from getting a new filter and with nothing but juvinile swordtails I need to frequently change water anyway.

I'm trying to get better pics, but bad lighting in the room. The smallest (panda/clown??) is now ruby red in color and is probably my only male of the four. The spanner is growing like a weed. I'm already looking for a bigger used tank so I can add cories and some true lambchop rasboras and perhaps buenos aires tetras.
