Anthony, what if you broke the cichlid category down into two categories, African and SA/CA, to avoid confusion when giving advice?

GREAT idea! ;) I know nothing about Africans, but know a thing or two about South Americans...... HUGE difference in fish! I have used the word "Cichlid" as South American myself and have been confused for giving bad advice for Africans not thinking.

Very nice! Thank you, and agreed it was not an immediate demand. Heck it was not even a demand, more a suggestion.

    Thank you though :)

Not to add more work, but I think combining the SA and CA forum into one, and combining the lake tan. and african section into one would be a little more beneficial.

I agree, it is almost too separated now. I mean there are Africans and there are SA. That is the general idea. Those 2 groups are rather different in care, a SA and a CA are rather similar in care.... etc....

I could go either way on this one. Lake Tan... cichlids should not be kept with mbuna and usually tend to be rarer fish. The CA/SA thing could go together, but hybrids shouldnt be included. imo

True, true, my ignorance again with Africans.... see, that is why I do not keep them.

Yes hybrids are different than all the others so agreed there too.

I'll combine the SA/CA's but Lake Tanganyika has to stay spearate. The water parameters are technically slightly different and as uncwnells said, they cannot be kept with mbuna.

Why should hybrids not be included ? Do you mean at all, or combined with another group ?

No hybrids should have their own threads. They are different than SA or Africans even though the parents are one or the other or both. They are in a class of their own. But they are still Cichlids.
