Why are some of my Cichlids rubbing and swimming against the rocks in my tank?

    Re: Wondering

Probably itching themselves, mine do it often, and they dont have ich or anything like that so I figure they, like all animals, get itches.

    Re: Wondering

Is there some kind of chemical I can use to prevent parasites if it just so happens to be parasites?

    Re: Wondering

Once in a while should be fine then. It's when they do it every few minutes throughout the day that may be a problem.

    Re: Wondering

It depends on what type of cichlid you want to sex. Some you can sex visually, other must be vented.

    Re: Wondering

I agree with ant, colors can sometimes be used, other methods are body shape, etc, but you can only be sure by observing the sex organs.

Some females lack color that males have, some have a different shape anal fin. It all depends on the species.
