Today while i was out getting a few things that i need to set up a new aquarium because of a problem causing fish.... I noticed that my convict cichlids have fry swimming around.... they are inside a cave that i have in my aquarium. they seem very active and the parents are caring for them veryyy well...

while i was out today.. i picked up some aquarium salts because i was told that they can help speed up recovery of fish...
i now have a few issues..... what should i do with all the fry... and will adding salts effect the fry.... i really don't know what i should do .. could someone help me out.......

    I have a 40g set up now.... ph:6.8
    temp: 82 F
    all other levels are ok..

1 young tiger oscar, 2 Jack Dempsey also very young, a red blood parrott( which is going to be cared for by my sister because it is much bugger then other fish) the 2 convicts

Why do you want to add aquarium salt to the tank ?

I can only recommend you get a bigger tank and move everything but the convicts. Like a 90g+ for those fish.

LemonDiscus has said it several times and I agree with him. Aquarium salt should only be used to treat illnesses.

If you want to keep the fry your best bet is to keep the tank a convict tank only.

    Agreed! :)

If the fish are not sick, dont salt them... Fry are especially sensitive to changes in salinity, PH, Temp, Nitrogen and Ammonia. I STRONGLY advise against salt, especially with fry in the tank.

If it isnt broken dont fix it!

Clearly if the Convicts spawned they're liking their water.

O it wont be long before something eats those fry, it will prolly be the parents due to stress the other fish are causing them while trying to eat the fry

i separated the convicts for noww ..... i was talking to my local pet store.. and they will take them for me if i raise them until they're half a inch or so.... so thats what i'm going to do.... and i will be lowering the water temperature a few degrees to prevent them from breeding againn.

Re: fry have just appeared in my aquarium...

I would suggest 2-3 times a day giving very small amounts of food.
