how soon after my dempseys have laid eggs can i move the parents from the tank? my dempseys laid eggs again today but i still have about 15 fry left in the tank from the last time they laid and i dont want them to be eaten. should i move just the parents to the new tank or both the parents and the eggs?

How are the eggs doing? you may notice that your older fry are eating the newly hatched babes.

Yeah the eggs hatched and the older fry seemed to have eaten them. Oh well my dempseys lay eggs every two weeks so im not too worried about it :)

yeah their pretty prolific, the easiest thing to go is get like a 30 gallon tank for your fry and just keep moving the fry instad of the parents, add a bunch of hiding places and all and the fry will start surviving the onslaught of the older fish.

it would be much less stressful on young fish to move them to a new tank than a breeding pair. so i agree with the others on moving your fry and maybe culling out the weaker ones and letting the pair eat em. unless of course you have a tom of room
