did a quick read...but I feel algae is the result of excess nutrients, chemical imbalance, or excessive light related. Just my opinion.

    When I'm faced with algae I :
    1) ask myself what/if anything did I do/add recently.
    2) Then I go straight to testing my water.
    3) I check that my equipment is running properly (heater/filter/uv)
    4) Then I go to my light source...checking bulbs...and if necessary turning them back a half hour at a time to see if that brings about a change for the better.

Granted, I am defin no algae expert...I'm sure most of us have experienced it one time or another...especially those of us with planted tanks!

I don't necessarily agree with what was said in that writeup. Like Dawn said, algae is, IMO, related to excess nutrients or lighting.

I disagree with the O2 part myself. Keeping a hot water tank I KNOW a heated tank DECREASES O2 supply! The warmer the water and the lower the PH it moves together to bring the O2 levels DOWN.

That is what jumped out at me.

Many other things such as contaminated bags when acclimating, contaminated plants and many other things can introduce it to a tank.

Cycling I dont feel plays a part in it at all.... I agree with Dawn and Anthony myself too

OK for any one interested I looked it up on the Tom Barr report. It is basically just starting a planted tank immersed until your plants take off and then adding water. Really only useful for iwagumi style aquarium IMO.
