Dovii Eggs

    So I came home today and looked into my dovii tank and saw the male, but couldnt find the female anywhere. I looked into the clay pipe that I had put in there a couple days ago and there she was, her and a couple hundred eggs! Breeding pair was right, Ive only had them a week! I was wondering what color fertillized eggs are and what I should do with the eggs? I have read that dovii are excellent parents and I am not sure if I want to put my hands in there to try and remove them!

    i think its supose yto be white or yellow look on google for more info though if you do remove it i recomend getting some one to hold them somewere whit a net they night be aggresive and they are good parent though just leave it with them and see how they do

    Tell me about it, I havent even been able to do a waterchange on that tank yet lol, speaking of that today is that day of the WEEK for my WEEKLY waterchanges, should I wait on this tank of how should that be handled?

    I've always continued water changes as normal. Just take extra care to make sure water parameters match.

    I have eggs too.... again..... my Angels....

    I do keep doing my water changes too.... It wont hurt them, worst come to worst you will piss off mother fish. That is bound to happen anyhow.

    Congrats on the eggs. BTW, if the eggs are bright white they are sterile. They should be a pinkish/greyish/yellowy color. (kind of transparent)

    The white ones are sterile and turn white from a fungal attack. Mother fish should keep them clean. If you loose this batch, try again. I keep trying to get the mother to care for mine.

    But that is me who has not successfully reared a batch of eggs yet.

    Agreed... that is day 1 though right?

    Day 2 gets some that turn white...(3-5% loss of eggs)
    Day 3 you get more white eggs and wigglers(10-40% loss counting the 1st loss)
    Day 5-6 Wigglers Free Swim and start to feed

    Its either the first or second day, I have been checking the pipe every few days (just had a feeling). So far two are white and you can see them in the pic. The mom is chilling with the eggs and she wont let dad anywhere near them!

    That is good. I dont know how they parent (Angelfish and Discus both parents raise the young) but if you only have 2 white that means you got babies. Next worry will be that Mom or Dad will eat the wigglers. If they dont then that is great. Ohhhh the milestones!

    i dont think there are going to be any survivors from this batch :( theres a fungus that developed on the eggs and it took over I believe.

    What are some things I can do for next time to combat the fungi? They laid eggs in a 12" long 5-6" tall clay pipe.

    I heard that too.... I let mom and dad clean the eggs for a few days and them separate before wiggler to prevent the babies from appetizing the parents... Thats me though....

    I let the parents keep the eggs clean... I dont use chemicals.

    At least with Angels the parents eat the fungus off of the eggs.
