Anybody ever blow their heater up during a water change? I did yesterday. Did a large water change on my cichlid tank and forgot to unplug my heater first. Half submerged and half out of water. Was walking to the other room to change another tank and heard a loud pop! Turned around and smoke was coming from the tank. Glass was shattered on the heater. Lucky I didnt zap any of my fish. That was my dumb move of the week!

I came close to that... never did it though... I can see where that would happen...

Thankfully I have a stealth which is supposed to shut itself off when out of water and no glass to explode. I think most of the heaters today have the auto shut off when out of water, unfortunately yours apparently wasn't one of them.

Go Stealth, you won't be sorry (but you might not like that theres no red light to tell when it's actually working)!

I have a stealth in my other tank. Tried to get another one but LFS doesn't stock them.

I definitely like the Stealth heaters. LFS uses them in all their tanks but doesnt stock them. Seems kind of strange to me.

for heaters, I use Titanium with external thermostat, capable of being pulled from the water while on, auto shut off, 300w cost me 50.00, 5 years ago and it still works better than any newer glass brands I have had
