Well we are excited to announce that we have had our first baby platy. The mother has been getting big for awhile now and she is doing great post birth. Check out the little one:

unfortunately we left the mother in the two-way breeder while we went to work and came home to no babies... :(

Next time a breeding trap may work better. The fry falls into a separate part of the container where the mother cannon get to them.

    Congrats on the little fry.

This is what we tried using... bad part seem that after the fry fell they were able to swim back up and get eaten.

Congrats on 1 at least. I can't seem to get any out of my livebearer tank. I added more plants and gravel and hiding spots recently so hopefully that will be of help.

well we were excited to at least see a fry in the tank. And hoped we would have gotten a couple more live ones to see if they would survive... hopefully next time.

Also, if you have a preggo who looks like they're ready to burst you can usually trigger labor by increasing the temp by a degree or 2.

I tried many different "breeders" and with the smaller fry such as the guppies for example...many times they will "fall" through the slits.

Mesh nets are great, but I also had various issues with them:
1 being you can't get a good view of the fry
2 being other fish in the tank would "suck" on the mesh trying to eat the babies...and this would kill many that would "lounge" on the bottom of the mesh
3 being you have to be very careful during partials as its very easy to go beyond the breeder putting the fry out of water.

So far, best method I found...is using those plastic hang on specimen containers and gettting the smallest drill bit you can find>>>duct taping it to prevent cracking and drill as many holes as you can in 3 of the sides (not the one that will go against your tank glass)...and the bottom if you want the waste to fall out. You can also stick an airstone in 1 and adjust the air to a very very fine SLOW bubble.
