    Re: fire eel help

Give him a 125g to roam in, another eel to keep him company, and plenty of live worms and live ghost shrimp to help him grow to 18 inches. ;)

I'm not sure the Polypterus would be a good idea.

    Re: fire eel help

 As you were told before fire eels will be fine with PEACEFUL fish. Polypterus are not necessarily peaceful when they get to be adults.

    Re: fire eel help

Which one is it? The " is the max size you can expect them to get.
    Nile Bichir Polypterus bichir 40"
    Delhezi Bichir Polypterus delhezi 14"
    Ornate Bichir Polypterus ornatipinnis 27"
    Palmas Bichir Polypterus palmas 12"
    Weeksi Bichir Polypterus weeksi 16"
From reading up it looks like a minimum of 50g is recommended for 1.
You definately know how to choose monster specimens that require huge tanks. Lol!

Compatibility-->will try to catch and eat small fish. So Polypterus must be kept with larger fish, spiny catfish such as Synodontis species, or with fish that can swim fast enough to avoid the Polypterus

    Re: fire eel help

Dawn stated 50 gallons for 1 so for two of them and only them I wouldn't go less than a 75 and that's pushing it imo

    Re: fire eel help

Dawns figures on length are a little off imo, but close. Your fire eel will not benefit from the companionship of another eel. It will, more than likely, kill the other eel because they are territorial and if your eel sees a smaller eel taking its food, it will make the smaller eel its food. A fire eel in a 75g by itself will be fine anything smaller and any tank mates will be too much. I know this thread is old but theres a lot of bad advice in here. Also, this is in the wrong section, fire eels are not cichlids. Agian, let me state that fire eels are not recommended as compatible with other fire eels, ever.
