    GOBIES

    General:
There are approximately 2,000 goby species, most of which are bottom dwellers in seas.
They inhabit all seas, as well as fresh and brackish waters worldwide.
The gobies of importance to aquarium hobbyists belong to the families Gobidae (true gobies) and Eleotridae (sleeper gobies).

    Biology:
Most species live near the bottom and feed on various small animals.
At spawning times the males occupy territories.
They provide parental care for eggs, which are laid by the female in a sheltered spot. (ex. A peacock goby gaurding a clutch of eggs that have been adhered to a rock)
Once the eggs hatch, the males provide no further parental care.

    Gobies-A Private Tip for Hobbyists

Gobies tend to play a subordinate role in the aquarium hobby, although their large numbers of species and their interesting behaviors merit more attention.
If several males of the same species are kept in a fairly large tank, you can observe efforts to impress, as well as fighting.
To prevent serious injuries, make sure your aquarium is well equipped with hiding places.
