Play sand from Lowes and Home Depot is generally a great sand to use. Pool filter sand may be a better choice though.

play sand usually requires quite a bit of rinsing prior to use. IME

Buying it online won't be a good idea IMO. Shipping charges will be high because of the weight.

Places like Ace Hardware sell it as well.

I've always used play sand from home depot and it looks really good after it's been in the aquarium

Pool filter sand is MUCH easier and is sold at Wal Mart for like $6.98 for a 20-30 lb bag. I would spend the few extra on the Pool sand

Commercial grade sand from Home Depot is a really nice white fine sand. I have it in my Lake Tangyinikan tanks and it looks great.

I use Pool Filter sand in ALL of my Discus tanks... yes they like it! It is MUCH better than gravel.... And IMO the Play Sand is dirty.... The pool filter sand is a bit heavier and does not cloud the water and your filters like play sand
