My name is Allen and I'm in Austin Texas. I'm new to the aquarium hobby and will probably be asking lots of ignorant questions! :)
I have just started with a 110 gallon freshwater set up and have got my initial batch of 10 fish in it...3 days so far and no dead ones! I plan to have my tank populated with Gorami and other compatible fish...maybe some silver dollars... I'd like to do discus but have heard they are hard to keep and think maybe i should wait til i have a better established ecosystem and more experience under my belt...feel free to chime in with advise!!

Welcome Allen ! Feel free to ask as many questions as you need to.

If you want to put Discus in the 110 tank you currently have you must wait until the tank is cycled. Keep in mind you will have to maintain immaculate water conditions for them.

Ok...thats what the local aquarium store advised me...I'm not ready to switch to RO water yet...at some point in the future I will. Thats why I am choosing Gorami for my fish...I like the color variation, and am shooting fo a diverse species and colorful community in my tank. and ohh yeah..I'll be asking lots of questions! thanks for the great site!

Yes... PLEASE wait if you are new to aquariums on getting Discus. They have some quirky ways about them... LOTS of research IF you want to get into them! And yes make sure the tank is established and holds the parameters you set the tank at...

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome! i will post some pics soon, there isn't a lot to show so far, but will post what I've done so far... I'll also be posting some questions as to filtration and aeration...I'm pretty sure I'm going to need more filtration and not sure if I have enough aeration...lol...I know I'm ok at the moment, but know I will need to grow as the size of my fish community does.

    thanks again!!
