    this is my setup 42g with a T5 HO lighting glo life light, one AquaThrust Powerhead & Internal Filter Kit 300 gph,Marineland C-Series Multi-Stage Canister Filter C-360, Two 200w heater hagen, one Airpod bubbler for 30g, egg create pot on the tank, and more to come.

    Yep a 42 gallon tank is too small for an Oscar.

    There are tons of other fish that will do well in there... I would stay away from the large predators though..

    I used to keep Oscars because they were "cool" and even bred them... but I will tell you what, a nice planted community is SO much more rewarding that 1 empty tank with 1 big fish in it :D

    Also most South American Cichlids are very close to keeping an Oscar.... Oscars are SA btw... so you care for say an Angelfish like you would an Oscar...

    Planted community tank!
    Here's some choices:
    Top Layer--Silver or Marble Hathchetfish
    Middle Layer--Longfin Red Serpae Minor Tetras, Rummynose Tetras, Male Endlers
    Bottom Layer--Neon Tetras
    Cleanup Crew--Corydoras, Malaysian Trumpet snails to tumble your substrate, True Siamese Algae Eaters, Ottocinclus',Mystery Snails (gold or ivory), Bristlenose Pleco

    well i got my oscar a new home some girl her in my town with a 200g tank that thing was way to big lol (someday i will have one). and seeing i can have a clean start am going for a reef tank 40g
