Hi everyone!! My name is Miranda and I am from Glen Allen, VA.

Currently I have a 10 gallon freshwater tank but am looking to upgrade to a larger tank. There are 2 cory cats, ghost shrimp and a couple different varieties of tetras. Switched this over to a planted tank using the Black Sand flourite a couple of weeks ago. So far the plants don't seem very happy so I have some research to do there.

Hoping to learn a lot on here. Looks like a great resource from what I have seen so far.

    Welcome to the forum Miranda!
watch with the ghost shrimp and tetras....dependant on the type of tetra, most will hunt those tasty lil buggers down for a snack!

    Yep. :)

Going to start with replacing the bulb since I have had that one for a couple of years and then increase the length on the timer. Hood is 17 watt max so if I want to do anything beyond low light, I am going to have to upgrade. Hopefully though the 10 gallon is going to turn into a quarantine tank. Looking at a 35 gallon tonight.

Yay! :) It's always nice to upgrade to bigger tanks! :D For how long do you have the lights on currently?

I was only doing about 8 hours. There was some strong light coming in from the windows as well that I thought would help. I am going to up it to about 10 hours and see if that helps.

    Welcome aboard ,
I would upgrade light; you can try Home Depot or Loews . They have an extensive line at a reduced price ,:)) .
You can try Craigslist for tank set ups but be patient and you'll find your price. Are you feeding your plants on a regular basis
