hot fish ..help

    hey there, how can i keep my fish cool, i know wierd question, we are having really hot weather here, broke records 2 days in a row now, i have added cool water, ice cubes (which my fish thought were new toys) heaters are completely unplugged.... any advice??? thanks jodi [bfish]

    Besides the ice, air conditioner in the room or a chiller.
    aerate the water with airstones!
    Ps. You don't need to unplug your heater...if set properly it will only turn on when needed.

    also you can get some plastic pop/water bottles fill them about 1/2 - 3/4 with water, leave the cap loose and freeze them, when froze just tighten the cap and put them in the tank and keep an eye on the water temp.

    no ac here so doing everything else i can, i have bubble wands and stones going in the tanks, each tank has both. it is 97 in our house right now, husband is disabled and boy doing best to keep him and kids cooled too,,,,i will also try out the frozen bottles, ty

    yowzer, I can't breathe when my house is 78F..but then again I have asthma.
    fan exhausting out the window maybe?

    Remove any tops from the tanks and place a fan so it blows across the top of the water.

    i also heard people made diy chillers by freezing water bottles and keep heater pluges in so when it gets to cold it will keep your fishes safe

    Yep...you will need a chiller to cool it down. Also, keep the air stone on as the hotter the water gets the more oxygen you're going to need to keep in the tank. If not already there, move the air stone to where the exit from the filter will help move the bubbles through the current better.

    I ran across this today and it's perfect for your problem. The little fans will help cool it down a bit but not like a chiller would do.

    hey. that's a good idea...it's like those lil table top battery fans (also seen them for animal crates..actually have 2 of them).

    cool, thanks, will check that out................OHHHHH and i am passing out virtual cigars, 12 baby mollies finally came out of hiding, have 2 different kinds in tank and the babies are dalmation mollies. whoooo hooooooo [bfish] [dancing]

    I use anthony's first technique it works quite well as it's super hot here too!
