    Need a New Tank
Well, I just screwed up and cracked my Eclipse 12g acrylic tank. I can be awfully clumsy sometimes. WAIT A MINUTE... this gives me an excuse to buy an even larger tank! Yeah that'll work!! As soon as I'm over being mad at myself (about 5 minutes) I'll be ready for some of your suggestions on a new 30g maybe. Already have a 90 and 125g so a large tank is a no-no even though I wish I'd bought a larger house way back when. So, I'm open to suggestions guys, bring em on!

that stinks about the cracked tank, but great that your getting a 30 gallon, I don't know about you but I would try so killis may be, or a tetra only tank(clean crew the exception.) or some kind of set up like that.

That would be great, just make sure you get peaceful tetras or may start missing shrimp.

go 55g, usually they are only a few dollars more as they are a more "basic" size.

Second...it will increase your options greatly!

Third, you can place a divider and seperate it into sections even allowing you to do planted, species only, and community if you wish.

    Re: Need a New Tank

Dawn, I'd love to do a 55 but the only room I have is a 55g stand but I already have a 5g Betta tank there so I only have room on that stand for a 30g or so.

oh, ok! Wasn't sure if ya had the space.
30g shrimp tank would be sweet! Do some cherrys and lemons and plant it with dark green plants and those shrimp will really pop!

    Re: Need a New Tank

If I repair the 12g Eclipse Dawn I was thinking of putting shrimp in that tank. How many would you suggest for the 12g. I know they breed like crazy but I don't want it overpopulated too much.

    Re: Need a New Tank

for a 12 I'd probably do 20 or so. I'm sure others will tell you differently, but I rather start with a nice colony...especially if you want to be able to see a few of them every now and then.

They love hiding in Moss (ballon moss ball @ Petco for like $5).

Mine also enjoy hiding in the pleco breeding logs.

If your looking for some cherry shrimp for a good price pm me.

    Re: Need a New Tank

Thanks Dawn, I'm getting ready to cycle the tank in the next couple of days so it may be a couple of weeks depending on how fast it cycles.

Thanks Dawn, good info there from The Crasher. I'm hoping it doesn't take that long.

    Oh your most welcome Greg!
Lol, I hear ya..i've always leaned towards the impatient side. (I've seen this bio cycle stuff, can't remember the name ...but it claimed it would cycle a tank in 24 hours..not that I belive it, but maybe others on here will know a thing or two about it).

    Re: Need a New Tank

I have Tetra Safe Start which is the successor to Bio Spira. It doesn't need refrigerated like Bio Spira and I paid 17.95 for a bottle that will cycle 75g. But since this tank is only a 5g Betta tank that I'm cycling now I didn't use it. I'll save the 2 bottles I have for the 90g and 125g. Patience isn't exactly my middle name either lol! But I've used it before and it did work very well providing you put fish into the tank right aways.

    Re: Need a New Tank

good to know, I remember Anthony posted about that Tetra product and how it didn't need refrigeration...I can't say I ever used anything to cycle other than a few cheap fish (luckily I've never had any that didn't make it through).

You'll have to let me know how the tetra product does for you (used to use their AquaSafe before switching to prime and always liked it).
