Beats me why people do it. I guess it is not so bad IF you know you WILL get a bigger tank by then. What bothers me is Oscars was used plurally for a 10 gallon tank. I did it with 1 Oscar and moved him to a 29 then to a 55. But I did have the tanks! AND I knew better than to put more than 1 in a 10. He lived in the 10 for 2-3 weeks before moving to the 29 for a few months and then to the 55. Again I did have the tanks, I could have put him in a 55 right from the start but chose not to.

The bad part is most of these people have no clue. They listen to what the sales clerk is telling them. I have overhead someone at Petsmart tell a customer that "sure a couple of oscars and a bala shark would be fine in a 10g"!!! I am not kidding. When the employee walked off for a minute I tried to enlighten the customer but I doubt she believed me. After all I didn't work at a pet store!!

right? listen to this lil' story i'm going to unload here.....it's actually getting me frustrated with stupid ppl.

i have a nieghbor that has a 125 sw tank.....he didn't get his until a month after mine, he copies everything i do which gets f'n annoying all the time but hey...who cares....
anyways i keep telling what would work and what won't and then he goes to the pet shop and follows what the inexperience person at the store tells him......so far i got a 72g. then he buys a 90g. just to show off, then he buys the 125 to show off...while i'm here stocking my tank with corals......after a month of him running his tank he packed in a bunch of different fish that don't go with each other and a bunch of anemones everywhere....so instead of taking my advice he brushes it off like he's a pro and then his tank crashes.
everything he had died and he lost a lot of money....so now he has it running again and within the first week he has 5 anemones and 3 clownfish in it, even after i told him not put anything in for the first month!!!
THEN ALL HE WANTS IS ME TO HELP HIM WITH THIS AND WITH THAT!!!
i don't even ask for any help with my tank and it's running just fine...........

anyways ppl should start listening to ppl that have experience and not to retards at pet stores.....

Yup. I already stated in the Petsmart or Petco thread what happened to me at Petsmart. I asked for Proper PH6.5..... the "fish specialist" said "why are you trying to make your water acidic? You are going to kill all of your fish. Africans come from Alkaline water" The messed up part is I DONT KEEP AFRICANS!!! I told her I had Discus and she responded "Oh, what are they? Arent they African?"..... um no!

And luvfish, yes I have heard Petsmart employees say the same thing and I have tried to tell people otherwise with no result. Actually it was someone with a 10 gallon that wanted a Pacu or 2 and an Oscar or 2 for their 20 gallon tank! They insisted they had a large tank because it was not a 10 gallon!

And this is just another reminder that I am so happy I found this place!! My local pet store has been really accurate with things like ph and stuff, but after you all saw my pictures I realize that I won't take their advice on what fish to put together for the long haul anymore....

Its just so hard for anyone to know everything about every fish, salt and fresh water included. Which is what we expect of pet store employees. Now if they were paid 100g's a year then yes, I would expect them to be almost flawless, but for 7.50 an hour Ill give em a break and just do the research myself.

Yeah, but when the same person has owned the same pet store for 15+ years then you would expect them to be a little more knowledgeable. I had the sales girls ask the owner (who I have dealt with many times in the past) to make sure the fish would be ok together in my 20 gallon tank... ohh well live and learn. And just FYI, this was a locally owned fish store in Roanoke, not the one I prefer in Lynchburg...

Ahh and that is what a smart person would do... but then you have those that just buy on impulse!

Yea, I'm forever telling my boys that their ought to be a law or something that sets a limit on the amount of stupid people you have to deal with/come across within 24 hours.
That way when you hit the set limit you can wave your hand and tell them, "sorry, I've already reached my limit for the day" and that would take away their right to speak. Lol!
Kinda like Bill Engvalls (sp?) Here's your sign..haha!

I am a police dispatcher and you would not believe the number of stupid people I encounter every day. I really had faith in the general population until I entered this career 15 years ago, I never imagined the complete lack of common sense that most people have. And even after 15 years I am still suprised almost daily at people's complete ignorance. And what stinks is you can't lock someone up for stupidity.
