    Tank Cycling the Expensive Way

You know.. .I have been thinking about it and I am crazy...

My 55 has not really had a HOB filter on it (it had a sponge) and the sponge filters air pump died.... I put a HOB on with no filter cartridge in it to keep water movement...

Well basically I am cycling the tank right now with 1 Angelfish and 1 Discus  Not the way most would recommend! They are doing good though!

That is the one in the cycle!

Yes the old sponge is in there, but there is no circulation on it as my air pump is dead....

Whew! At least it keeps the existing BB in place. And actually, if you leave it in there (it was already established right), you will be fine for a spell and it shouldn't cycle with the new HOB. Just don't remove it as yet. ;)

Nope... was not planning on doing that :)

No hurries yet... the tank is still cloudy from soot from putting the play sand in on Saturday  ---- May be time for another 80% water change... it does not seem the filters can get all of it out

Yup... I just dumped it in (I did rinse it in warm water so it did not change the temp drastically...)

    Torture can be fun! :D

I think they like the cloudy water though! It looks natural :) I told my wife it looks like murky lake water

On the plus note.... the water is just now starting to clear up to where you can see the background of the tank!

Also testing the water with VERY VERY little Nitrite (<.5ppm), no Ammonia and VERY low Nitrates (<25ppm)
