My wife and I are setting up our first aquarium together, a 150 gallon freshwater tank. We recieved a shipment of Rainbowfish from from an out-of -state fish distributer yesterday and discovered that two of the Boesemani's had ich. I came across this forum while searching for treatment methods. This seems like a good place to get aquarium advise so I signed up.

I'm using the heat method that was recommended -been slowly ramping up the heat for the last 10 hours. Two more degrees to go, then we will see what happens.

    10 Harlequin Rasboras
    5 Emerald Corys
6 Lake Kubutu Rainbows -added yesterday
    2 Boesemani rainbows -added yesterday
    1 Cuckoo catfish -added yesterday

    Welcome to the forum !

I'm not sure if it was mentioned in the treatment thread or not but make sure your tank is at least 86 at the bottom of the tank (where the substrate/rocks) are.

Watch adding too many fish at one time first off. Second where is your temp now? Third have you added aquarium salt yet to calm the fish? If not you should. I don't remember the dose off the top of my head now butt will calm the fish with the high heat.

On another note any med that has Formalin/Malichite Green (Quick Cure) makes ineffective treatment too.

    Lastly welcome to the forum

I installed a second filter at the same time I added the new fish. It had just finished its fishless-ammonia cycle (61 days) in a spare empty tank earlier this week. I made sure it was ready to go before I ordered the new fish.

I moved the thermometer to the bottom and its showing 83.4 degrees there. I've not added salt.

    welcome....

if i'm not mistaken, the salt dosage is like 1 tablespoon for every 5 gal added slowly over several hours. i also see you have a catfish, don't know how it will react to the salt. is there plants in your tank? if so and you want/have to add meds and if you can find it, kordon ich attack is really good for planted tanks, it won't wreck plants like some other ich meeds do. also with the added temp and salt, airation should be increased too.
    again welcome to the forum.

The heat and salt treatment worked. The fish have been symptom free for over ten days. I've cooled the tank back down to normal temperature. Thanks for all the good advise.
