    Re: Freshwater Invertebrates

The reason I did not reply is because I don't do cichlids, I did have africans a while back..but apparently due to improper sexing of my lfs I ended up having a slaughterfest of sorts on my hands after I had them for severeal months.

I undestand you want someone to give you suggestions, but please do not put duplicate posts up. It makes the forum cumbersome for new people and makes others want to avoid being here if they see the same posts over and over (the same goes with advertisements).

If you'd like an answer faster and think one of the mods can help ...pm them and put the link to you post. (Just an idea).

I found a few of these online for ya that will be malawi compat. (Not sure if they are what your looking for though):
    Catfish (Synodontis)
    Haplochromis
    Lake Victoria Cichlid
    S. American Cichlid (Dwarf)
ancistrus (bristlenose pleco)--read where many had success with them, although I wouldn't suggest doing them since I have bristlenoses and know first hand they are not aggressive and could not handle themselves in an attack)

I thought this was useful for those just starting in the malawi cichlids (who have a 50g or larger tank):
An example of a Lake Malawi tank of 50 gallons or larger would include a trio (1 male & two females) each of: (1) golden Malawi cichlid (Melanochromis auratus), (2) zebra cichlid (any color variety), (3) purple & gold mbuna (Pseudotropheus acei); (4) a pair of sunshine peacocks (Aulonocara sp.), and (5) a Synodontis njassae catfish. More species can be added if the size of the tank is increased; don’t mix different species of peacock cichlids (due to the fact that they tend to hybridize in captivity). Expect the cichlids to reproduce and thereby increase the tank population. Use several pounds Texas holey rock and pieces of African root wood to provide plenty of hiding places for female and juvenile fishes.
