I am getting a free 55 gal tank of CL with awsome wood stand, anyways i will need a filter since its not coming with any accessorys, the price is right so Ill take it, now I checked CL to see if I could get some good cheap used fliters and these 2 came up, does anybody recognize these/tell me if they will work well for a 55 <a class="postlink" href="http://appleton.craigslist.org/for/1314404968.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://appleton.craigslist.org/for/1314404968.html</a> <a class="postlink" href="http://appleton.craigslist.org/for/1323894023.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://appleton.craigslist.org/for/1323894023.html</a>

otherwise Ill wait till i buy my house and set it up in a few months with a brand new one, any way you slice whats a good fliter for a 55 gal and will the ones above be a good deal

the first one is supposed to be a good one (never used it though)
the 2nd one is a rena filstar ?xp3 (have the xp4 and love it)

go canister...IF it comes with all the parts (what's showing is just the base and the grey baskets)-->needs quick disconnect...attachments and tubing.

That magnum 350 I WOULD NOT use as a primary filter and especially NOT an ONLY filter... the other one looks like a Rena... I am not sure on it though..

Technically both will work... BUT I think the 2nd link which I think is the Rena you will be happier with... there is no info on that filter though and if it is a Rena... I dont know what model it is which makes a difference...

You posted while I was typing...

Go with the Rena... (I thought it was an XP3) as you have the media trays..

The Marineland Magnum 350 will polish the water BETTER than any filter I have seen on the market (removing all debris) but it has NO media capabilities...

I would do both if you could.... But if not get that Rena....

    that's what I said. Lol!
Rena all the way...IF all the parts are there (odd that they are just showing the canister and the baskets?)

ps. i've found a few xp4's for like $120 on ebay the last few weeks (got mine for $115 shipped)

    They are both canisters...

Agreed with dawn... get it there if everything is there...

BTW I have that Magnum 350 on my Display tank (one of 3 filters)
