Okay... First observation is that they're overfed, a lot. Secondly that frontosa (hybrid?) needs at least a 6' tank. How long have you had them ?

I have had them 2 years. I feed them Cichlid Gold, spirulina and spectrum...alternating. They get fed a pinch every other day. Right now the frontosa is only 3 inches, but when he gets bigger I will have to sell him or trade him. I know I can't keep big fish in this tank. Maybe by then I will have figured out where I can put a really nice big tank. I really appreciate the feedback.

Thank you. I have tried to give them a good home. We enjoy watching them. I have the tank set up right next to my computer and the breakfast bar. I figured I had to go tall with the rocks since the tank isn't a conventional one. I already have an agreement with the fish store that they will swap out the big fish for small ones when they get too big for this tank.

I have to fess up. The gray one with the cool holes is really plastic. It was $40 at petsmart. I bought it for the holes and that it would be lighter than a tank full of real rock. The rest of them are real, though. : )

Yea, why do they want so much for aquarium decorations? I mean, I am not really fond of the fake castles or fish or all that, and yet they want to charge you $50 for 1 half of a sunken ship, out of 2 parts..... I haven't figured that one out yet..

Nice layout for what you got! I paid too much before for a green stump from Petsmart (like 50 or something) that my Oscar broke anyhow.... I was mad!

thats why you go for the natural look with driftwood and rocks

I totally agree with the all natural. I had only rocks in there, but when I found this nice big hide at a super petsmart and it was nice and light, I knew it would be perfect for the tall tank. And the best part is that it LOOKS natural. I tried to simulate their natural environment as best I could.

Anthony, so you think I should cut back on the food? Do you think what I have been feeding is good quality. All three were recommended by the fish store.

If you're feeding them every other day they shouldn't be fat like that. It could be health related from being in that size tank. NLS is a good quality food, and spirulina is a good supplement.

Cool, that is how I do it, too...using the spirulina as a supplement. I think the fat guy is a pig. Most of them aren't too fat. The cichlid gold I've been using is medium pellets and I think the big ones gobble it, so I am going to just use the smaller pellets like the NLS and they will have to swim more to get the food. Thanks for the fat tip. I hadn't realized that they were too fat. But, that is something I think I can correct.
