Love the angel. It looks like you could use more live rock

Yeah... I need alot more. The sad thing is - that's well over 150lbs of live rock already... hard to fill 6'x2'x2'! Buying piece-by-piece... and to throw it out there, that branch on the left is over 2 feet long... and most of the individual pieces are at least 25-40lbs apiece :-(

A salt tank that size just screams TIME and MONEY!!!! Heck, my freshwater is expensive enough!

Love the Saltwater Angels though :D Makes me still want a salt tank.... Maybe if the Discus tank crashes an..... nevermind, no I couldn't

Saltwater angels are what started this house down the slippery slope of marine tanks. I actually looked for a majestic for 5 months before giving up and buying a Koran... finally found this guy 8 months after that, and traded in what became a much larger, plump Koran during my ownership :)

And yeah, I'm pretty sure we've dropped over $10,000 in this setup including both filter tanks, gear, critters etc (I'm a freak about not bringing home other tank's chemicals/diseases/problems and have little tolerance for equipment failing, everything must be new... not saving a little money on gear just to have a catastrophic failure or outbreak that costs thousands in specimens!)

Discus got me back into fishkeeping. I ALMOST went salt with the re-discovery (my personal on of course) of the Lionfish. I was SO close to doing a salt tank, but at the last minute chose not to for the cost in live rock.... sand.... salt..... sump.... refugium.... lights and then the creatures!!!

Of course I would want a reef as why would I set up the whole tank and not run a reef. (remember I am the guy running a planted discus aquarium) I enjoy the challenges!!!

Money though makes the biggest challenge as with 2 kids and a wife.... 2 cars (still paying on) rent and all the other good stuff I am broke!! No salt also til I quit renting and own... I dont want to have to move an established reef! I am kind of itching for that day though!!

    shh..

I have NO idea how we're going to maintain the tank when the wee one arrives in Feb... friends are already trying to convince me that diapers/formula cost more then calcium and buckets of salt

Happy wife gets to stay at home afterwards, but I hope our home's not a cardboard box any time soon!

I have 2 kids and diapers and formula will break you! No joke there at all!!!! Diapers about $30 a week and formula is about the same! Not to forget clothes (what hurt my wife and I at our kids 1 yr b-day as you really dont get baby shower clothes for that far out :( ) Clothes are about $10 - $35 an outfit and they need about 10-15 outfits per stage and go through them every 2-4 months. Not to mention the toys, other assorted baby items (crib, toddler bed, toy-box, etc...) and you go through the toys faster than you believe!

All in all throw away about $200-$400 a MONTH on all this combined!! Oh and I forgot day care if you ever need it! Day care is about $300-$500 every 2 weeks!!!! So add about another $600-$1000 a month to that even!

Another thing.... your car, may not be a big thing now but depending on what you have.... well you may need a new one as what you had no kids may not be what you need with kids (my wife had an old clunker and we got her a mini-van on top of my kia rio that we still owe on too...)

Not trying to scare you but it really is not cheap to have kids.... BUT they ARE THE BEST THING EVER!!!

    ... yikes.

We traded in our '04 RX8 & '06 WRX for an '07 versa & '08 4x4 tacoma before the news (moreso because the rx8 got 9mpg on premium and the wrx got 20mpg on premium, whereas the versa gets 38mpg regular and tacoma gets 23mpg... we're obviously dont have heavy right feet anymore!)... and sold the '06 ducati for the marine aquarium a couple years back... so no more fast toys for us.

cost of child-care is one of the reasons wife wont be working... she's currently a preschool teacher for one of the high-end local daycares, but it would cost more for our child to attend then she makes each month!

Now this is becoming very depressing... does anyone want to buy a big aquarium?? (just kidding...)

I guess the unusual critter tends to be the crowd pleaser ;)

I probably need to find our real camera and get some mandarin shots one of these days.
