What is the best and safest way to clean a tank that previously housed snakes?
What is the best and safest way to clean a tank that previously housed snakes? A guy i work with has a few tanks that he said i could have but the only downside is that the held snakes. what should i do to make them safe for my fish?

Acrylic or glass tanks ? If they're glass you can use baking soda and vinegar and scrub it. Bleach is always an option if you know what you're doing.

White vinegar and hot water will be fine. I just did this with a 20 long and my fish (and snake) are fine:)

I always do 5:1 bleach soak 5c water to 1c bleach (make sure its plain bleach and not scented..ie floral, mt. fresh, etc), leave it soak for an hour or so if it's really nasty..then rinse it with clean luke water...and then soak with clean water with Prime or the equivalent...then re-rinse again to be on the safe side. Let it air dry and when completely dry your good to go. Don't forget to add Prime or the equivalent before re-filling it :)

Prime is the water treatment Chuck Norris and God himself uses in their aquariums.

Removes all the baddies from your water (minus phosphates of course).

Also be careful when using tanks that housed reptiles that the tank will hold water. Some of the tanks used to hold reptiles dont hold water well. I would test it outside so if it were to leak/break it wont mess up your house. You can tell though when you look at the seals if it can hold water or not. The seals on "aquariums" have more silicone than the "terrarium" counterparts

That's why I used it once, the pet store didn't have Prime in stock.
