need help with green water

    my water is green

    ok. i was at the doctor all day, yes all day. well while i was gone my 2 yr old decided she wanted to feed the fish. and well she dumped all the fish food and frog food into the tank and now it is green. i need to know how to clean it out. oh and i just got told this maybe 30 minutes ago.

    Water change and a gravel vacuuming.

    You're going to have to use a net and try and scoop it out or stir up the water as you're changing it.

    do you think it will be fine until tomarrow. I am having seriuos back pains and can barely move. and i dont want to attempt to change it and have more pains.

    No, I wouldn't leave it. It will cause water quality problems and can kill the fish.

    omg!!! now to figure out how to do this with out falling. do i need to change all the water?

    You need to change at least 50% of it.

    ok. i will do 50 tonight. as soon as i get a moment without pain. and somemore tomarrow.

    ok.. i found a turkey bastor (sp) and got alot of the food out. not sure if it was quiet all but alot. and i changed 50% of the water. it still looks murcky. i hope i didnt get any little fish either. which i dont think i did cause i looked it the water i sucked up for a while to see if any were in there.

    You might have to clean your filter as well.

    Depending on how dirty it is you may be able to rinse it off.

    Is your tank by a window? Do you do weekly water changes?

    I am not sure. i will take the whole thing off and rinse every peice.

    Is it ok if i do this?

    Okay like i said last night my oldest child dumped all the fish food in the tank. And i did a 50% water change last night and today and cleaned the filter out. and well the water is still merkey and the adult platys died. Is it okay if i scoop all the fish out and rinse everything in the tank out? I dont want the rest to die.

    do a 90% water change dont clean the filter will kill all the good guys needed for your tank...do another 90% tomarrow and then again the following day keep up with the water changes till it clears up
