    is this fish
    ai441.photobucket.com_albums_qq133_blowfishRus6_SANY0612.jpg

    one of these??
    <a class="postlink" href="http://www.oddballonline.com/fish/acei.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.oddballonline.com/fish/acei.html</a>

i used to think it was a kenyi. but from what ive seen most of the male kenyi's are yellow, and im not 100% sure but i think its a male (does alot of matting dances)

i thought it was a kenyi because the decripion for the kenyi kinda describes this guy. dominate, aggressive, so on. he is all of those. he runs the tank. it says the acei is mellow, thats not this guy, but it looks just like that fish???

basically i want to find out because i want to mate the guy (he seems very willing to do so) and well i dont really want to cross breed.

    any help would be apreciated.

it definitely looks like a Pseudotropheus, but not quite sure of the type. The orange/redish body throws it all off for being either a Kenyi or an Acei, but then it could be just young and transitioning from fry coloration to adult?

that picture kinda sucks. crummy camera. but its mainly blue/purple with yellow tint to it.

ive had it for maybe 4 months now, it was about that size when i got it from the petstore. it has not changed much.

under the aquarium lights it really blue and purpleish with yellow kinda standing out. under the lights i have now, daytime lights, the colors are not as pronounced.

its an african of some sort, possibly a morph/fluke or someones concoction.

    either way it looks neat.

but i want to find out which one it is :D

it shares the same colors as the acei. blue/purple/yellow. i know it kinda looks orange/red in the photo but its not. also the top fin fades out to yellow like the acei and they both have the white line on the front fins. just mine has a more of a yellow tint then the one in the pic.

    also, the Melanochromis Auratus
    <a class="postlink" href="http://www.aquariumlife.net/profiles/african-cichlids/melanochromis-auratus/100005.asp" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.aquariumlife.net/profiles/af ... 100005.asp</a>

if thats what a male and a female look like i get then at the lps. ive seen them in both black and yellow.

pretty much the lps dont really sell females, and i want some, but i kinda want matching breeds

looks like a juve kenyi, the markings are there, but the head and dorsal look like a fluke. where did you get it?

at the local pet store. i think it was petsmart. it was in an tank with a few other oddball fish i belive. there was the bumble bee's then some mixed africans (diffrent types in one tank) then this fish and a few others in one tank. they were bigger than all the other ones. kinda why i got him.

if you can get a better pic, it might help more, turn all room lights off and flash off and leave tank light on, it will be the best lighting for a aquatic pic.

Id like to see what it develops into.
