What these 2 plants are? I need to know what they are so that I know the conditions they like. I bought them without tags and noone at the store could tell me what they were. I need to make sure they are truly aquatic and if not I want to remove them to eliminate rot.

1st one looks like microsword grass

2nd I'm unsure as with the height and blades I'd tend to go with Hairgrass, but that's normally greener and much fuller, and thinner blade-wise

Is number 2 bulbous if so it's an onion plant and yes it is truly aquatic.

if that is a onion plant a healthy one should be darker green, but if it has a bulb that's a spot on id.

According to my book "The 101 Best Aquarium Plants" The pictures look nothing like what has been described so far.

Pic 1 Cant be microsword - Blades are thin and wide. I have a microsword in pic 2 (its the first plant.) Those leafs hang down...The plant in pic 1 its blades stand up

Onion plant.... Naw when I planted it it had a root system. Also if you look closely you will see a bloom in the center of the plant of WHITE circles.

sorry,I still believe 1 is a microsword...that or a sublata such as chain sword (but premature).

with a root system and not a bulb then it defin isn't a onion plant. With the bloom I haven't a clue what the 2nd one is.
doesn't look like any freshwater ROOT plant that I'm familar with. I did however have a betta "bulb" plant that grew into something similar to it, but again..didn't know the name as it was a variety of bulbs I received.

I think pic 2 is Cyperus Helferi

I think 1 might be a variation of Pygmy Sword

You may be 100% correct... I looked it up and it looks like mine and it is one of the 33 species to avoid according to my book.

    IT WILL come out TONIGHT

Yes, mondo grass is not aquatic and will rot. Use it as a houseplant.

if it was mondo grass they normally sell that in the tubes or lil pots on a rack rather than purchasing it from directly within a tank (at least at the lfs in my area that stands true).

Mine was in a platic pot fully submerged at Petco.

Also guys I pulled the plant out that was in Pic 2 which what I thought was Cyperus Helferi and OMG it STUNK to high heaven.. That can't be good, so maybe it wasnt aquatic after all.

Also I have 2 Anacharis.. I put them in the tank last Thursday with the new light. These were not there when I bought them. What are the things hanging down

    aimg179.imageshack.us_img179_1487_plant13.jpg

And should I cut them off?

sounds like your petco is submerging the terrarium plants. LoL!
my 1 petco did that when they first got them in...If you just purchased them I'd be taking my receipt and telling them you want a refund (give them the stenchy plant and all) LoL!

    It's the roots, I wouldn't cut them!
anacharis can grow roots from the side, in addition to the bottom.

Forget taking it back petco won't give you your money back, buyer beware, take it as a lesson learned and remember to do your research before you get stung again.

I figured they would, they have a return policy on dead fish...why not dead plants or ones sold that shouldn't have been submerged in the first place?

Buyer beware is their policy, trust me I have dealt with this same issue myself.

That's not correct. When i was told that a pineapple plant wasn't aquatic i took both of them back and they gave me my money back. With that i turned around and bought truly aquatic plants.
