Whew. It took me like 5 minutes to find this thread. I post in so many I have to check all of the subjects to see if it were my thread haha.

They seem to be doing okay now. They never leave each other. Just slowly checking out the tank. I've noticed A LOT of little black tube shaped droppings on the floor. I don't know if it is fish poop or not but it is a lot. I've also noticed it in my other tank the day after I moved all of my fish to it.

Do fish poo a lot if they're nervous? Or is this something else?

Anyway, I will keep updates on the discus as well as the biotope I have in progress.

    Thanks for looking!

do you have the box checked for responses to be e-mailed to you in threads you subscribe to?

Or you can search using your name.

And fish will under stressful conditions and overfeeding.

Just make sure you keep the water really warm for those guys, in the mid 80's and on the soft side

Hey Dawn, I will check on the email notifications. I don't know if I have that setup or not. But it tells me when I have a new PM in my e-mail though.

NoctuVide: The breeder said he kept the batch of fry that I got at 80 degrees so for the past 2 days (before I got them) i've had my tank at 79. I want to raise it a little bit I don't want to accidently go too far on the dial haha. The higher the temp the more of an appetite they have so I do want to have it a little higher. Maybe over the next few days I will slowly increase the temp.

You cant go to far up with Discus. I have taken my tank up to the mid 90s before for illness treatment. As Noctuvide stated, 86 degrees IS ideal! Adding peat moss to the filter to soften the water is also helpful. The jump from 79-86 should take about 5-9 days. Any faster and it could stress them. I would wait a few weeks though before altering water parameters.

The key now is to be sure that they are feeding. Feed OFTEN and in small portions. I recommend to feed 5-8 times a day just a pinch. Do that for about a week.

I told you in an email before but the reason for this is you DO NOT want them to quit eating. Juveniles this size are NOTORIOUS for not eating after a stressful condition. That is the reason people sell them cheap at this size is the probability of them dieing at this size is exponentially higher than when they are at adult size. The only worry I have ever had is the Discus not eating. Keep them eating and watch the tank (at a distance if need be) if they are truly consuming the food. Dont just assume they are. They also are notorious for biting the food and spiting it back out!

Discus are funny creatures. They are the only animal I have ever seen to starve itself to death when they dont really need to.

Also keep a mental note that if they are hiding from you to stay away from the tank. Drop in the food, do your water changes and get away from the tank. Sometimes they will stress over having a peanut gallery (you) while they are doing their thing.

So i've witnessed my discus feeding! They have been nibbling on the sinking shrimp pellets! Haha. They forage throughout the tank looking at the sand and blowing shots of water at any debris to see if it's food! Really fun to watch.

My fiance is buying some frozen black worms tonight for them (she works at Petsmart) so I'll see if they go nuts for that. The breeder said they were eating it when he had them so *fingers crossed*.

Also, the neons do not eat the floating flakes... they flakes just drift along the top until they slowly fall down and then they eat them. I also see a few chases between the neon, I never thought they'd be territorial haha. I think I will get 4 more and leave it at that (10 total). They're not really interesting to watch other than the blue shimmers under the light.

No, they sell frozen blackworms.. well not Petsmart but some places. But, my discus demolished all of the bloodworms I put in. I didn't know one little cube contained so many! I fed both of my tanks very well with just 1 little cube!

Glad they are feeding like that! That is a terrific sign!

Also you are getting to see how they search for food on the bottom. That is really cool how they blow the sand around to look for lost food. I mentioned that on the board but not many fish do that so some wanted to see what I meant. Well, I have not actually caught them with a video camera doing it so....

Discus have behavior unlike any other fish! Welcome to the joys of keeping them. You will notice TONS of other things that they do that will make you smile, scratch your head and even bang your head into a wall! :)

I remember when I had some live blood worms. They were in a pot-like thingie next to the tank and I noticed all my fish to the right glimping to the worms :) Especially the angels!!
