So I just got my Endlers and added them to my 20 gallon tank! I added about 12 stems of Stargrass and a ball of Java Moss. They seem excited. They are smaller than I thought! I expected the males to be the size the female is! No wonder the males are subject to being sucked up in the filter :)

    Lost one Juvenile. :(

I had a feeling it would not make it a bit after adding it..... about 4 hours after acclimation it settled on the bottom and didnt really move.... the others seem to be doing ok though. I hope.....

You know Anthony, I still cannot find any fry in the tank. The female is for the second time showing the gravid spot and HUGE! But I have never seen fry.... I have a ball of Java Moss in there I put in for the fry to hide in.... I have moved it and seen nothing come out?

    I am a bit confused!?!?

Well I would think if she hadn't already given birth since you've had her she should in the next day or so. If she did give birth once maybe the huge change in pH caused the fry to be DOA ?

I was thinking that too.... well it was not a huge change in PH... they are at PH7. BUT the waters GH and KH are MUCH lower than yours! That may have shocked the babies.

How big are the newborn fry

I'm going to test my pH in a minute because I have no idea what it is now.

Fry are maybe 1.5mm ? Think that's about right James ?

I tested my GH and KH too.

    pH - 8
    GH - 10
    KH - 5

I dont remember the specifics of my tap water but I think it was like this

    PH - 7
GH - 1-3 (not really measurable)
    KH - 7

So our water is quite a bit different then

Yep. Because of that I'd be willing to bet the first set of fry didn't make it. She should have been ready to give birth not long after you had her.

I thought so too... she should be ready again anytime now! She looks like she did when I got her!

    Hopefully these babies will live.

Oh and BTW, I do know now the sex of the baby that lived (it was the lighter colored of the 2) it is a male... its starting to show some red now. It takes Endlers a while to mature I see!

That would be a good round about number.

Here's a good example for ya as well. Last night my daughter spotted one sitting on an anubias leaf. I came over to look and said where? "See the little snail on the leaf?" "Yep". "Look right behind it".

After focusing for a few seconds, I finally spotted the little bugger!

Yeah they are a bit on the slow side. He's not showing any black ? Normally that's the first color to appear on males.

nope... a few red spots and if you look close you can see the outlines of where the color will go on the tail.

    Did I get a defective fish :)

Maybe you'll get lucky and get a "blonde" male. They happen about 1 in every 1000.
