hey, referred to this site by someone on yahoo answers. I'm from Newark, Delaware. I'm a 13 year old girl. I have been keeping a 10 gallon tank for 2 years, loosing fish from time to time. I recently had 2 emerald cory cats, 1 bloodfin tetra, and 2 neons. 1 cat died, and the tank was filthy enough that we cleaned it, afterwards letting me discover, i messed up the chemistry and now the other cat and my prized bloodfin are swimming in eratic circles, like the other cat did before death. Sorry, xD depressing story. Anyone from Delaware? or any help with my tank?

    Thanks,
    Maria

    Welcome to the forum Maria.

Do you have a test kit to test your tank water ?

I have a pH test, I haven't gotten the chance to get a different one.

You really need an ammonia, and nitrite test kit.

Do you do weekly water changes ? With it only being a 10 gallon tank you could remove 2 gallons a week and replace it with new water really easily.

Do you add anything to remove chlorine ?

I just did a total tank cleaning, and learned the hard way that that was a bad idea. I used this neutral stuff that removes chlorine and makes the pH 7.0 (since I was having issues with pH.) I will be buying a test kit soon.

Yes, cleaning everything at once is a very bad idea. It kills all the beneficial bacteria.

Freshwater Master Test kit is what you need.

Also be aware that there's less room for error in small tanks, larger tanks in my experience are WAY easier to maintain.
