Okay, I got it all cleaned up. I will not fill it until I move to Fargo for college. I will buy black "moonsand" for a substrate. I like the way it looks. Will this work for a planted aquarium? Also, does anybody know of a inexpensive 20g Tall aquarium stand out there?

you can try craigslist for a tank stand or your local thrift stores where you may find a sturdy stand/table of some sorts, or if your handy or know someone who is you could make your own.

you'd do better with eco-complete for plants than moonsand. IME it's hard to keep them "in place" with sand being it's soo loose.

I have no problem with pool filter sand..... or even play sand for that matter.... YOU DO have to fertilize sand a bit more than eco complete off of the start though... look forward to $15 every 3-6 months for fert tabs....

I'd imagine so...I'd also do a test run and fill it somewhere safe and leave the water in it for 24-48 hours to make sure you have no leaks.
Especially since your taking it into a college.

For fish stands you can make your own basic box frame stand>>find a heavy duty nightstand or dresser>>or check craiglist, thriftstore, pennysaver if you have/get one, or your local sunday paper.

The gravel they gave you looks to be peagravel (cheap, but looks pretty with all the different pebbles/coloration). Being a college student I'd shoot for the eco or equivalent since it has nutrients in it for plants and would give them a great start and NOT alter your water chemistry. If you don't want to do ferts aim for low to moderate light plants depending on your total watt per gallon.

I have had it full of water and it sat for most of the day with no leaks, so thats good. I think I might have a go at building my own stand. I am proficient with woodworking, so it will be fun to have another project. As for the sand, ill go with Eco-Complete, I think it was around 20 dollars for a large bag?

right on target with the eco price. I'm unfortunate in that the stores in my area don't carry it (got mine from Bigalsonline, but know foster and smith carry it online also).

aquarium stand shouldn't be that bad for a tank that size.

It all depends on what you want to spend!
