I just thought there might be some folks that wanted to see our new pond. If you go to youtube, and search robertjoakimson (my hubby's name, no spaces), there are several videos of our fish. Of interest is the video of Guido, our Red Tail Catfish, at a very young age, about two inches... and then another of Guido, at eighteen inches, less than a year later! Also, there's a slide show of the pond (which ended up being about 800 gallons after the filter was built onto the side, for a total of about 900 gallons) being built in our bedroom. Though I love Guido, and think he is a wonderful, charismatic, beautiful fish, I am interested in spreading the word about this fish to would-be fishbuyers... not every casual aquarist wants a pond in her bedroom! Please help spread the word on every messageboard and forum you interact with... we have to stop the collection and sale of this species, which (in most cases; I realize there are exceptions) benefits only the LFS. Thanks for reading my rant and viewing our videos.

Re: Hey all.. If you'd like to see our new pond for our RTC...

Thats a beautiful Redtail. I totally agree with you on stopping the sale of the fish. I bought mine with every intention of buying him a bigger home. Less than a year later he was a foot long and I had to give him to LFS. Needless to say they sold him to the first person who showed interest in him and they ended up killing him within a day. The fish grows EXTREMELY fast. Glad to see you were able to accomodate yours... :)

Re: Hey all.. If you'd like to see our new pond for our RTC...

This is the problem right here! (no offense J).

People are always buying fish that they know will get too big for their environs. Granted they have "good intentions" by claiming that they will provide a larger home down the road. However, that road very seldom gets traveled and the fishies suffer.

Me....I soooooooo want an RTC. Love these guys...simply beautiful. But alas...can not accomidate one. I will be building a large outdoor pond attached to my deck with a viewing pane but even then, not sure I can meet their requirments temp wise during the winter.

Same with Rays. I know I am going to be building a 10' tank in my rec room but at the same time, not going to get one until the tank is built.

Re: Personal YouTube Videos of Your Aquatic Friends (RTC, Etc)

Just wanted to make mention that you could post your youtube videos under the photography/video sections. There you will have options of where to post such as Saltwater, Planted, Non-Planted & Fish.
Below I've provided a direct link to the area of which I am referring.
Aquarium Photos - Show off your Tank Forum

(under the Subject line on the 2nd row you have options such as youtube & youtube url)

Yes, James, this pond "started out" (in plan, anyway) on our back porch. Then, once we realized how much we'd be spending to heat it a few months a year, it moved inside! Also, I was advised by Bob Fenner of WWM that there could be issues during the summer months with the oxygen levels of the water, due to how warm it gets here in Virginia. All in all, it just made more sense to move it in.
Also, yes, Guidoman, my fish does share his name with you! I'm not sure why I named him Guido... he just looked like a Guido to me!
