This skimmer is driving me crazy. When I have it putting air into the intake all the air bubbles aren't going up into the cone part, a lot are escaping and entering the tank. I stopped letting air get into the intake for the past 2 days but that defeats the purpose and it doesn't remove the protein. What should I do ? I'm thinking about putting a little filter floss in the return area, I think that will stop it.

Hey, the floss might help thiers alot of protien skimmers that come with floss inside the protien skimmer before the cup that actually collects the excess protien. Also be sure that you are not missing a gasket of some sort some protien skimmers have gaskets under the collection cup. GOOD LUCK

Yeah, the gasket is in place. Bubbles are just escaping inside the skimmer and following the flow to the return area.

No offense but did you get a brand name one or a knock off??? i bought one onces home made looking thing lol, and it worked horribly i never got it to work $150 to the trash becasue i thought it would save me money, but it back fired on me. ive learned with experience if you want a sucessful reef spend the money to get the results you want. and if you did buy a brand name call the company that makes it they will probably send you a new one !

You have to modify it. They suck because they work off of the height of the water in the tank. Every time the water height changes you have to adjust the stupid skimmer. They get bad reviews every time, just like the Seaclone. Sell it and get a different porotein skimmer. I would recomend an AC REMORA. No adjusting involved. Just plug it in.

Big Al's has a strict return/exchange policy from what I remember reading.

I'll call them tomorrow and tell them it's defective and see if they'll give me a RA number and a cash credit for it. If not, I'll just have to sell it to someone cheap and take a loss.

The Remora needs no adjustment. The one with the magdrive pump is the RemoraPro.

I got it working a bit better. I think I'll just keep this for a bit and upgrade in a few months.
