    Re: brine shrimp

I think if I end up doing brine shrimp I'm going to just get a sea monkey kit. I had one a few years ago, and I swear there was no way to kill them off. Even when I let their little sea monkey tank dry up completely, and then add more water, in a couple days I'd have sea monkeys again.

Yes but they live for a little bit in freshwater when you feed them to the fish.

They are hatched and raised in salt water.

    Re: brine shrimp

Finally picked up my brine shrimp eggs today. I'm attempting to hatch then in a cut secured to the inside of my aquarium with a few small holes in it for circulation. Added the eggs at 6:00PM so we'll see what happens in 24 hours.

I skipped the freshwater soak step and put them directly into the saltwater of my tank. I'm not sure why they tell you to soak them in freshwater for an hour before adding salt to the water.

Just a guess but maybe to rehydrate them and salt actually dehydrates. Maybe the salt water does not transfer into the cell walls the same as the freshwater... couple guesses

    Re: brine shrimp

That's possible. Tomorrow morning I may soak them and see if there's any difference in the hatch rate.

    Re: brine shrimp

So I just woke up and came downstairs. Quite a few brine shrimp have already hatched. Now I have to try to get them to grow so the fish can actually see them when I put them in the tank.

I'm using a syringe that came with ApistiaX. It's pretty small.

    Brine shrimp question

    Brine shrimp question
OK I heard some where that you can use table salt to hatch these guys, and I was wondering if that was true.

I also heard the water softer salt you can get at wal-mart works great for these guys too.

anyone try these two salts before??

    Table salt can be used.

I'm not sure water softer salt would work though.
