    Re: Tubifex Worms

I avoid feeding worms to my fish. They tend to gross me out a bit. :)

They're exactly as the name implies, worms.

    From Google...

    Re: Tubifex Worms

I personally have read mixed things about Tubiflex worms.... MANY say dont feed them to Discus (where my research stays usually) because they tend to carry germs that can kill or make your fish sick.

    Strangely Blackworms are considered OK.

Even to throw this out, one of my Local Fish Stores sells Discus (in LARGE quantities) and he feeds his Tubiflex worms.

I prefer to go frozen and "treat" feed blackworms.

Live food isn't always necessary IMO. Depending on the fish you keep as long as you give them a quality food, they'll be great.

Very rarely do I feed live food but when I do it's only brine shrimp.

I looking to live food to feed fry, and also if I get my DPs which can't eat flakes and need frozen or live food to eat. because of money I want to grow live food because it a renewable food supply.

    Re: Tubifex Worms

If your growing your own, as long as you take care of them, I wouldnt suppose that there will be that big of a chance of fish getting sick.

Yes, live foods produce a higher success rate in fry. (so I have read)

From what I read, they require more care than the fish to keep. You have to waterchange several times a day and also require a constant flow of water 48 hours before feeding to keep clean.

I personally dont find it worth it. Blackworms are safer and I am sure easier to raise.

live food should be used as a treat, theres a reason pellets are made and its not just to make money, they provide a better range of nutrients than the fish would get in the wild, and also one staple live food does not have this range of nutreints
