I've never bred my cichlids but wont they eat the fry if you stress them too bad? Not sure if you would put them in a net. I have seen people hold them over a bucket and strip them. Do you have a lot of rock work for the fry to hide under? If so, you may just want to watch her real closely...

I might switch to a 10 gallon. But w/ 3 people in house we watch very close.

I'd leave her in the tank, as long as there are lots of nooks and crannies, the smart fry will survive, and stay under rocks and such. You'll see more and more of them come out at feeding time while the other fish are distracted. If you move her to a net or another tank, you are liable to loose the brood. I'd let nature take it's course. She'll breed again and again, soon you'll have so many of them, you will have trouble getting rid of 'em. My way , only a few of the smartest and fastest of the brood survive.

Yeah, that sounds like good advice. Everyone I know that breeds Africans does that. Keeps lots of rock work for them to hide under.

It's funny because that's the same time layded the eggs ..Right now she holding the fry in her mouth. It's funny because they try to escape and hide, but she'll scoop them up right away.. lol I guess she's over protected of them...The safest way you'll know, observe and try to looking into her mouth, and see if you see any eyes her mouth. I'm in the same debate if I should strip her or not,but I rather let natura take it's course like Bobv requested... Wish you luck and hope to see your fries soon..
