i use instant ocean because as soon as it's mixed in to the water it's ready to use......it dissolves quick too. if you put water into a 5 gal. bucket add the salt and conditioner put in a strong powerhead, your water would be ready in minutes.

That's what I always used to use when I had my saltwater tank. Do you use the regular salt mix ? Instant Ocean also has something called Reef Crystals that has extra levels of calcium, vitamins, and selected trace elements.

I just use the normal mix because I don't have corals to worry about.

Would you mind making a list of the products you use ?

When I had my little 10 gallon tank I only used Purple UP to add calcium.

    Thanks.

Yeah, at 30 dollars a bottle (What I paid in NH) it's not something I'd want to use in a larger tank. I seemed to have good results with it though. I hated how cloudy it made the tank though. It took hours to clear up completely.

if you have good flow it doesn't cloud for too long, mine takes like 15 min. to clear up.

I'm going to try and keep my initial setup costs below 800.00. Think I can do that ? :)

I've got to take a few trips to different pet stores to compare prices but as of now I think I'm pretty set on the 45 gallon tank as a starter tank.

not a bad size to start of with.....try to keep with soft corals if your planning on a reef.

Yeah. I should probably wait a few months before putting any corals in there though, right ?
