    SPINY EELS

    General:
The spiny eels, found in Asia and Africa (about 100 species), are bottom-dwelling predators of insect larvae or fish.

    Biology:
Most spiny eels are active at night and like to dig themselves into the substrate.
Some species even create real subterranean tube homes.
At least one species provides parental care.

Note>Spot-finned spiny eels are inquisitive fish that need hiding places.
