I'm gonna take another crack at keeping Rams. LFS had some really pretty gold and german blue rams the other day. I have a ten gallon tank in my room with two swordtails and a platy and a 20 gallon in my living room with 7 neons in it. My question is, which would be the best tank? The last two rams i had were in the 20 gallon and didnt make it more than a week. I've never had a problem keeping fish in the 10 gallon. I had to do multiple water changes and change the carbon recently in the 20 gallon to clear the water up and its been crystal clear for two weeks now. I can move the 2 swords and the Platy into the 20 and just have Rams in the 10 or put the Rams in the 20 with the Neons. What do you guys suggest?

My first question would be what are your water parameters ?

My first suggestion would be to keep them in a tank by themselves. The neons will be too aggressive and the ten gallon is too small.

Cool, I will check my water parameters and move the neons to another tank.

Neons too aggressive for rams? Are you talking about neon tetras. Don't agree with that one. I've had rams chase a Discus more than 10 times larger than them.

I do agree with trying to keep them by themselves if they haven't been staying alive before.

I want a whole school of them. I'm gonna buy 3 or 4 at one time once I move the neons out. My LFS always has awesome looking Rams...

I bought one yesterday for 5 dollars on sale at Perfect Pets here in Richmond. Its swimming around the tank and all of its color has started coming out. I'm hopeful this time that I can keep them. I'm going to get 2 or 3 more today since this one is doing so well.

PH is 6.5. Ammonia is 0. I dont remember the rest of the parameters that they gave me at LFS but they said my water was good. I've got a male and a female now. I moved the Neons out so its just the Rams. Their color has come out now and they are swimming around and eating well. They look better here than they did at the store so i'm thinking my water was better than theirs was. So far so good. I will keep you guys posted!!!
