I am in the process of relocating some community fish out of my 55 gallon tank. I currently have 5 African Cichlids I want to move in there. Have any of you ever had a Redtail Shark in a tank with African Cichlids? I've seen Clown Loaches in African tanks before but never a Redtail Shark. I have a Redtail and would like to keep him in the big tank when I move the Africans. Will this work?

He should be fine in there. I had a rainbow shark in with mine.

Cool, I will give it a try. I have read mixed reviews on the internet. I would imagine if Clown Loaches can live with them then my Redtail can. By the way I lost my last clown loach today... Still treating the tank for ich... Haven't seen any signs of it on any other fish but I am gonna keep the temp up and try to get it all clear before I move the Africans in there. Now that the loaches are gone I will use the quick cure...

Jrow the redtail should have no issue blending in with the Africans, as a matter of fact the africans will actually enjoy its messy eating tendancies... and will greedily pick up after the shark during feedings.

As my rainbow shark got larger he was actually more aggressive than my cichlids..

Cool, I really like that fish. I'm gonna start moving fish next week. I wanted to do it this weekend but the Ich on my loaches kind of changed my plans. I would like to put some more Clown Loaches in too.

Yeah for some reason africans are scared of red tail sharks. I had a 4 inch red tail once that was king of the african tank. I think their shape and the was they swim messes with the africans heads lol

My Snow White and my Electric Blue chase him a little bit but for the most part he holds his own. I've caught him chasing a few of the cichlids around the tank. Its kind of funny to watch!

I think the barbels on their mouths helps them to hold their own.

I'm not sure what it is but he is the smallest fish in the tank and is the last one to get chased around!!!

Yeah they won't mess with plecos but will eat the lobsters when they get big enough. I tried a blue lobster but he only lasted a month before he got eaten.
