Pretty much anything that breeds easily/quickly isn't going to make you alot of money - because there's the simple fact of supply and demand. Maybe invest in a show quality pair of guppies or Bettas? Flashy, quality bettas can fetch upwards of $80 on Aquabid for Halfmoons, Plakats and the 'wild' types.

But you could always sell baby gups as feeders too.

Rarer fish of good quality sell well. You could do something like wild caught live bearers (Endlers for example).

Bettas are too much work to breed IMO.

If you can find them Gambusia Rhyzophorae (Wild Marble) sell for about $30 a pair.

Ask your local lfs which fry the pay more for.
    More than likely discus>>rarer plecos

You can get a general idea by looking online at places such as ebay and aquabid>>see what they are going for to get an idea of what you could make.

Be prepared, because if you choose to ship it could get costly.

I'd go with bettas if you have the time, they produce a lot of offspring and can breed every two weeks or so. The fry do take a lot of workk... but if you buy a good pair you should be able to sell off your bettas quickly ^^ Hey I'm curious what are king bettas D: they look like old veil tails to me, but my pet store sells them for 3 times the amount. Oh yeah don't try halfmoons, they're too hard to breed :3 Go with crowntail, double tail or delta tail (whatever that one is XD) bettas those are popular :)

A lot depends on the time and space your willing to put in to it.
I'm have a small breeding operation in Fl. and I just about break even on my hobby, but there is a very limited market for what I breed. I know almost every one who deals with show quality goldfish in the U.S.

Discus are VERY hard to get to breed.... VERY hard! Also with Discus, if you dont know what you are doing and dont have the time to care for the tank you will end up with dozens of stunted specimens... IF you choose Discus be prepared for DAILY water changes... Feedings 5-9 times a day.... At the end of the day the $25-$50 you can sell each baby for WILL NOT make up for the money lost in chemicals, food and your time!

No fish is "worth" breeding.... you breed because you want to... NOT for the money... you will never make enough if you are in it for the $$$

    IMHO

hmm lemondiscus is right about breaking even when your in it for the money!

i was just thinking if your going to spend all that time, money, and energy breeding up to get discus, why not just wait and get the discus by waiting and saving. Probably take the same amount of time?! IMO!

You might be better off just getting a few baby cichlids and growing them into nice adult specimens to turn a small profit.

I breed several types of africans. I started with all wild caiught specimens which was quite expensive to get them but after about a year and a half the fry I have sold has paid for them and probably make around $200 - $500 a month profit. I usually sell to a local distribution center so I don't have to spend money on shipping but the most profitable fish I breed are my WC mpimbwe frontosa. They have 40 - 80 fry at a time and the local ditribution center gives me $15 each at 1 inch. But you need to have a lot of species only tanks and grow out tanks if you want to be able to make a profit.
