[help] I'm thinking of getting some cories and some neons. I don't want to get both kinds of fish at once, so which species should I get first?

    Thanks!

It does not matter... the neons first would at least give you fish to look at easy... the corys like to hide and or stay at the bottom all day...

Neons are mid level swimmers so they cruise around where they can be seen better...

My opinion though... it really is up to you.

What else do you have in the tank ? I think I would get the cories first.

Nothing else. Just gravel, water, and plastic plants.

I used to have a couple bullheads in there, but they got too big, so I let them go.

You should try and get some live plants. Live provide better oxygen help putting away the waste of your fish and ofcourse look better.

Like Lemon already said, neons are midlevel swimmers. They look pretty and are not too hard. But neither are corys. Both fish are schooling fish so I'd advise 3+ corys or 7+ neons I have both in my tank and the corys are just lazy bunns and the neons tend to swim around plants :)

Corys first neons do not like to eat off the bottom of the tank. corys get the food the neons miss.

Corys being bottom feeders is the ONLY reason I would think of doing them first... proper feedings of the neons though and there would be no need for a bottom feeder right away IMO

I'd suggest 2 weeks to make sure they are parasite free if your going to go the qt method (although I must admit, I've never done it other than for my salties).

Kinda hard to quarantine anything, because I don't have a spare tank.

You said that your tank has nothing in it. Has it been cycled? If not, you'll need to cycle before adding anything, otherwise, your fish will likely not make it.
